In this case study, we will explore how Veeps, an online ticketing and live-streaming platform for concerts and events, leverages AWS Elemental services to stream live concerts with high quality and reliability. The services used in this case study include MediaLive, MediaConnect, MediaConvert, MediaPackage, and vMix.
Veeps provides a platform for artists to perform live concerts online and reach fans who are unable to attend their events in person. The platform offers a variety of features, including ticket sales, live streaming, merchandise sales, and interactive experiences.
With a growing number of artists turning to online concerts during the pandemic, Veeps saw an opportunity to enhance its live streaming capabilities to provide the best possible viewing experience for fans.
To deliver high-quality live concerts to fans, Veeps leverages the following AWS Elemental services:
MediaLive: This service encodes and broadcasts the live concert to viewers. It accepts a live video feed from the concert venue, encodes it into multiple video outputs at different bitrates, and transmits the streams to MediaConnect.
MediaConnect: This service is used to transmit live streams from the venue to the cloud for further processing. This allows for the buffering of live feeds and enables support for protocols such as SRT. Also, its use allows for N+1 transcoders for greater redundancy. The ultimately provides a secure, reliable, and low-latency connection between the concert venue and the cloud, ensuring that viewers receive a high-quality and uninterrupted stream.
MediaConvert: This service is used to transcode the live streams received from MediaLive. It transcodes the streams into multiple output formats, which can be delivered to different devices and platforms. In addition, harvest jobs are enabled to ingest into Veep’s Video on Demand (VOD) service.
MediaPackage: This service is used to package and deliver live streams to viewers. It provides a single endpoint for streaming the concert, which can be easily integrated into Veeps’ platform.
vMix: This is third-party software that Veeps uses to produce the live concert, including adding graphics, audio mixing, and switching between multiple camera angles.
With these services, Veeps is able to deliver high-quality live concerts to fans, with low latency and high reliability. The use of MediaLive and MediaConnect ensures that the live streams are transmitted securely and reliably, while MediaConvert and MediaPackage provide the flexibility and scalability needed to deliver the streams to viewers on different devices and platforms.
Since implementing AWS Elemental services, Veeps has seen a significant improvement in the quality and reliability of its live concert streams. The use of MediaLive and MediaConnect ensures that the live streams are transmitted securely and reliably, while MediaConvert and MediaPackage provide the flexibility and scalability needed to deliver the streams to viewers on different devices and platforms. Also, Veeps was able to deliver content in 4k and with Dolby audio to enhance their user experience. This has resulted in a positive user experience for fans, improved video and audio quality, and fewer interruptions.
In conclusion, the use of AWS Elemental services for live concert streaming has proven to be a successful solution for Veeps and their clients. The services provide a scalable, low latency, and high-quality solution, making it possible to deliver live concerts to viewers around the world. The solution has helped to maintain the revenue generated by live concerts and has provided a much-needed lifeline for the music industry during the pandemic.
